Peace, this thread is a discussion of Nas's recent album. First off, the title is almost a misnomer b/c Nasir Jones brought a great deal back to life on this joint. Track for track things don't add up to a solid album but the stand out songs that hold this album together are some of the best Nas has put forth in a while if not ever.

Money Over Bullshit

The beat is above average but not classic. This sounds like a song Tupac would have recorded if he had the chance. My favorite lyric... "Afraid not of none of you cowards but of my own strength"

I'll be back to add on song for song...

any comments?

Track 2- You can't kill me...

This one is for the NY headz. Personally, I like the beat but the raps are redundant. The hook is just too easy, I dunno. I like this track but it is not my favorite.

Track 3- Carry on Tradition

This song is real strong. It is up there with the Busta and Q-Tip joint from big bang "Pass the Torch". This is the kind of song that is on an Illmatic status.

Where are they now- a gem... there is supposed to be a remix featuring a lot of the people mentioned in that one.

Title track- enough said... Will.I.am blessed the track and the rhymes is fierce

more later...

Never going back- sounds like they needed a song w/ Kelis. It is good but not great

Cant forget about you- it is like a walk down memory lane... the jingle bells are bananas.

The next track, Hold Down The Block , is humerous and good the first time around but after awhile this one gets on my nerves. Nas spits like a 1930's mobster about hip hop and drops a few names. The beat is mediocre and the flow sorta follows suite.
Black Republican- arguably one of the dopest beats out. i am with Nas doe- taking over the govt.

Let there be light- Tre Williams make a strong debut here. I love the cymbals on the drum loop and the feeling of this song is triumphant. Makes me want to compete and/or get out and change some shit.

Still Dreaming- Kanye drops by and uses his signature sampling to make this one. The concept loosly fits the beat. It reminds me of testify by Common.

Play on Play- cant fuck with Snoop and Nas together... is this the first time this has happened?

Hustlers- Dre laced the track but it is not one of his best. Nas is Coming was better but where the beat lacks The Game makes up for it with his flow.

Blunt Ashes- C Webber is no joke on the beats. This song is sick too, the who's who of Hollywood tragedies.

Hope, I love the acapella style and chanting "live Hip Hop live, Give Hip Hop give"... yes, please do.
