We all know that capitalism can be good. Look at us, we have ads on this site to keep it running, money changes hands for t-shirts, cd's, concert tickets...but there's always a line to drawn before straight explotation enters the mix.
I wanna know what first hand experience you've had or seen with a business or workplace exploiting customers, discriminating againsts workers or anything else that earns your disrespect.
Me? I worked at a Radio Shack a few years ago (i know, lame) and we were forced to sell 24% Interest Credit Cards as part of our quotas. When we had a meeting to discuss why we weren't selling as much as we "should" (all of us drones agreed it was a scam and refused to sell them) they told us:
| Quote: | | Try targeting (!) the elderly and recent immigrants, because they won't understand the interest rates as well and will be more willing to take the 10% discount at time of puchase |
Needless to say I stopped working there the next day. _________________ -=http://myspace.com/producedbybusiness=--

I worked at MDG Computers for a few weeks earlier this year. Not one of my favourite places to be. Whenever a customer came in to the store with an ad from the paper, we were in no way supposed to sell them that as the company would lose money.
I'm all for upselling a customer, but this was ridiculous. And the fact that they were advertising $1300 worth of stuff for $600 didn't help.
My brother bought a computer from them about 3 years ago and it worked great, but after everything that I heard and was told when I worked there, I wouldn't buy a computer from them. _________________ Matt Eagleson

i worked in a theatre (alliance atlantis cinemas) earleir this summer down at bayview and sheppard. well i went on vacation for a bout a month and came back - the first day i went back to work the manager calls me into his office and starts saying how they caught me stealing big money from the cash register - of course this could get anyone into big shit. However they were trying to scare me, they wanted me to leave because apparently the jewish people disliked non-white people serving them or helping them. so i called in and quit the very next day, pisses me off when they cant tell me directly. _________________ AGINCOURT C.I. 2007 - STOLEN FROM AFRICA |

You say that to everything Miz-0...
Ok, this prolly has nothing to do with the thread topic, but I got interviewed and hired on the spot at McDonalds when I was 15 (yay for me) .. and then a week later I had training, and on the first day found out that they fried their fries in pig lard. . . which I think is gross... and then I quit _________________ - Flex <3 |

I worked for an IT services and sales company about five years ago doing Human Resources. I was asked by one of the project managers not to send him any resumes of applicants that had names that sounded "foreign"; the customer would have an issue with it. Ironically, the project manager was Lebanese whose name was Hecham, but his customers knew him as "sean". I never understood if he was really trying to comply with the customer or if it was his own personal issue. Nonetheless, I imagine this sort of thing does happen and more. _________________ **Amani Dakar**

i can't think of any terrible work experiences right now, but i know my pseudo-half-brother worked in the deli at a grocery store for a while cuttin' meats and cheeses - and he's vegan, so it was nicely ironic. _________________
